Join us on Saturday 26th April for a special Halal Food Tour of Halifax Borough Market, followed by Chai and Bakes with local recipe developer and baker Rooji the Foodie!
This food tour is designed for visitors following a Halal diet. It is a subsidised tour as part of Culturedale – Calderdale’s Year of Culture Celebrations.
Join us for a guided walking food tour of Halifax Borough Market, sampling Halal dishes from some of the market’s best eateries and hidden gems, served up by local independent market traders. Over 2.5 hours, you’ll learn about the market’s rich history, plus taste a range of savoury and sweet goods from around the world. The tour will culminate in Chai and homemade bakes made by Rooji the Foodie. Soak up the good vibes in the Market with a Chai, whilst also hearing some of Rooji’s story on how she developed a love for baking and perfected her recipes which she also shares as recipe e-cards on her website.
What to Expect:
- 2.5 Hour Guided Market Tour: Your market tour guide will take you on a journey through the market’s history and its impact on the town of Halifax, and share with you mouth-wateringly good food stories from both past and present.
- 4 Suprise Food & Drink Stops: Sample a curated selection of culinary treats, all of which are Halal. The food varies on each tour but may include: Gyros, Turkish kebabs, fresh fruit, homemade baked goods, tasty plant-based dishes, and delicious drinks from around the world.
- Chai and Bakes with Rooji the Foodie at the end of the tour, and a conversation with her about her baking and her links to Halifax.
- Meet Local Traders: Chat with vendors and stall owners, hearing firsthand about their craft, recipes, and the stories behind their business.
- Small Group Experience: Limited to 12 guests for a more personal and interactive tour.

- All food provided will be Halal, and non-vegetarian and vegetarian options will be provided.
- If you have any allergies, please make sure to check with each food trader before tucking in!
- Due to the nature of creating a well-balanced and thoughtful culinary experience, many of our tours are unable to accommodate certain dietary restrictions. Please do contact us prior to booking your tour to see if we are able to accommodate your dietary needs.
- There will be some walking involved, both indoor and outdoors, please wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather.
- Please bring your own bottle of water with you. Drinks are available to buy on the tour if needed.
- Please note we will be taking photos and videos on the day for promoting online. Please let your guide know on the day if you do not want to be in these.

Tickets are £15 per person as an introductory offer, thanks to funding from Culturedale (Calderdale Council). Guests will also receive a free Halifax tea towel as part of their experience!
