CultureDale Heritage has teamed up with Todmorden Learning Centre and Community Hub to offer an exciting opportunity to 10 individuals on our FREE ‘Building Heritage, Crafting Futures’ project.
Join us for a 10-day training program designed to introduce you to essential construction methods and techniques for restoring and improving the energy efficiency of heritage buildings. Through hands-on experience, you will learn practical skills and work with natural, eco-friendly building materials—ideal for preserving older properties like those found across Calderdale.
Insight into the course:
· Heritage conservation and climate emergency; retrofit assessment of heritage buildings; basic health and safety.
· Visit heritage buildings across Calderdale and meet with industry professionals for insight into the transition needed towards more environmentally friendly job roles in construction.
· Introduction to carpentry skills; lime hemp; lime pointing; insulation materials; lime plastering (one day of each element).
· Tool maintenance, course reflection and celebratory event.
Dates: Monday 12th – Friday 23rdMay (10 days in total, excluding weekends).
Times: 9:30am - 4pm (please note, you will need arrive on time and complete the full day to finish the course. Please let us know if you have any childcare requirements to attend the full day).
Location: Tod College, 44 Burnley Rd, Todmorden OL14 7BX. Transportation for site visits will be arranged. Please let us know of any access requirements.
Cost: FREE, however, we will require a £50 deposit which will be reimbursed on course completion.

Course eligibility:
· Must be 18+.
· Have permission to work in the UK.
· Calderdale residents will be prioritised, however we may consider applicants from West Yorkshire.
· All applicants welcome. We especially encourage women/individuals who identify as women to apply to this female-led course.
Note: Only 10 places are available. If you are successful, we will confirm your place on Friday 2nd May.
What you’ll get from the course:
· A certificate of attendance to boost your CV.
· A basic knowledge and understanding of carpentry and use of lime in construction, environmentally conscious construction to help to reduce carbon footprint and understanding heritage building and how to look after them.
