Project name: ‘Beacons’
We are seeking experienced public realm artists with a visual arts practice to create an impactful outdoor light installation. The installation will work as a standalone piece responding to the theme of the project: BEACON – working with light and space as an integral feature. The installation should also reflect the landscape, architecture and the heritage of the people who live there. Your proposal could be for an existing work which can be effectively re-sited or a completely new piece. Above all, we are looking for proposals that will delight and surprise visitors of all ages. Applications can be made by individual artists or a collective of artists working in collaboration. Artists will be based in Calderdale or have experience of working in Calderdale.
Budget:
£9,000 per installation (3 available).
All design, materials, production, transport, and specialist installation and removal of the installation, insurance for theft and damage of the installation and Public Liability, and security for the piece costs must be included in the £9000. We are looking for installations that are artistically unique and of high quality. Installations must be suitable for the outdoors and structurally resilient to withstand changing weather conditions. Designs incorporating recycled materials will be additionally weighted within the selection process.

Artists will be project managing from start to finish, working in close collaboration with the CultureDale team, Parks and Green Spaces Team, and anyone else involved in the production. Designs should be non-political, with no advertising, religious agendas etc.
We are interested in works that explore new ways to use light and the use of Green Energy Solutions.
The artists will create contemporary artwork that is relevant to the local area and enhances the space.
