Thanks to a grant from Calderdale Council’s Calder Ward Forum, ColdenCulture@St James invites you to visit us for a celebration day about stained-glass on Saturday 27thJuly 2024 at St James Church (wheelchair accessible),Church Lane, Hebden Bridge, HX7 6DS.

The church will be open between 10:30am - 3pm for people to wander around and have a look at the exhibitions. Please learn more and sign up at the link below, the event is free but expressions of interest in attending can be registered to be given priority for the activities with limited spaces.

There will be light refreshments available throughout the day. There will also be craft activities available for everyone to create their own "stained-glass".

There will be some events happening at specific times:

11:00 – 12:00 & 13:30 - 14:30

Craft activities exploring “stained glass” art suitable for families and children led by Rev Ruthi Gibbons.

11:15 -12:00

  • An illustrated talk on the background of the stained-glass windows in St. James Church by Dave Smalley.
  • Dave is a local historian with an interest in the history of Victorian stained-glass.

12:15 -12:45

  • Dave Smalley will take people on a group tour of the windows.
  • Karl Theobald, a local stained-glass master craftsman, will be giving a demonstration and talk about his work restoring, conserving and creating stained glass.

14:00 -14:30

  • (The previous two parallel activities will be repeated)
